The Construction Association of Rural Manitoba Inc. was founded May 14, 1913 under the name Brandon Builders Exchange. Fourteen companies gathered together to discuss mutual concerns. Recognizing the importance of defining the rights and obligations of general and sub-contractors for building work spokesmen for the various companies agreed to form the association. The annual dues were $10.00.
By the mid 50s, following a wartime hiatus, the Brandon Builders Exchange had revitalized itself and its Membership Roster list showed 46 member firms.
The name was changed to the Brandon Construction Association Inc. on June 1, 1979. Over the years our association has enjoyed a close working relationship with the Winnipeg Construction Association and one of the greatest joint achievements was the formation of the Manitoba Bid Depository in November, 1980.
In 1982, after several moves the Builders Exchange found a permanent home at 950-10th Street where we remain today, after an addition in 1991, and renovations in February 2004 to facilitate our electronic planroom.
In April, 1993 our name was changed to the Construction Association of Rural Manitoba Inc. and our membership currently stands at approximately 200 members.
Over the years the sharing of information through our planroom has been a vital service to our members. With the introduction of our online planroom this service has been greatly enhanced.
The staff and Board of Directors of the association are continually working for the betterment of our association and the industry.

The Manitoba Building & Construction Trades Council is a non-profit umbrella organization representing 14 building trade unions with more than 5000 members in the province's construction industry.
Usually known as Manitoba Building Trades, the council works to influence events in the construction industry and government, making things better for our union members and for all construction workers.
Our aim is to make sure the construction workplace is safe, people are well-trained, payment is fair, healthcare services are provided for members and their families, and our tradespeople can retire in comfort and dignity.
The council has a long, active history, and is a direct descendent of the Winnipeg Building Trades Council formed March 9, 1909. Provincial responsibility first came in 1943, when the name was changed to The Winnipeg and Vicinity Building Trades Council.

Winnipeg Construction Association was formed over 100 years ago to provide commercial and industrial contractors with opportunities to share project information. As membership grows, so do our services. Our expanded services include educational and networking opportunities, lobbying and advocacy functions, and construction information services.
Advocacy. WCA is in continual contact with federal, provincial and municipal levels of government, making known its members' interests on labour relations, employment standards, workers' compensation, unemployment insurance, various tax acts and a host of matters affecting the construction association.
Education. WCA's education program provides relevant learning opportunities in manageable segments. While a multitude of seminars are offered in-house and through partnerships with WCA member organizations, other courses are provided through WCA's relationship with Red River College. Many of these seminars provide credits towards Gold Seal Certification.
The Gold Seal Certification program is facilitated in Manitoba through WCA. This program provides nationally recognized certification for construction estimators, superintendents, construction safety coordinators and project managers. WCA acts in an intake capacity, pre-screening applications prior to passing them to the CCA offices in Ottawa. To find out more about WCA's current education programs and the Gold Seal program, go to www.winnipegconstruction.ca/Member_Services/education.htm.
Construction Information Services. WCA is pleased to be the single largest source of construction information in Manitoba, reporting on all types of construction opportunities including private, public, construction management, design build, sub-trade requests, RFP and any and all ICI work.
